China is a very big country with many provinces with different living conditions. This made the main foods in China differ from those areas.
We can divide China into four main areas including northern, southern, eastern and western with different climate, economic and cultural conditions. Therefore, the typical foods in China are also different between those areas.

- Northern foods. This area includes Beijing and Shandong. The typical foods are starchy, vegetables, garlic and many kinds of meat from beef, lamb and duck. You can get more information from North China Food on China Highlights website.

- Eastern foods. Most of their meals come from seafood with oily dishes. The typical taste in this area is sweetness. You can find these foods in Shanghai and Hangzhou.
- Western foods. Their main meals come from pork, beef, poultry, and tofu. Vegetables and fruits are their side dishes. Typical places in this area are Sichuan, Hunan, and Yunnan. People like to eat really spicy foods.
